Hyperlocal Targeting: A Case Study of Precision Marketing

Broad campaigns often fail to resonate. Brands that succeed tailor their messages to specific segments. This is how Latlong mapped 200,000 polling booths and millions of voter residences to deliver measurable electoral gains.

In today's cluttered digital landscape, broad campaigns often fail to resonate with audiences and have a high level of 'wastage'. Brands that succeed are those that tailor their messages to the unique needs of specific segments within a target group. This is where hyperlocal targeting comes in: a strategy that focuses on reaching people not just by city or pin code, but by smaller, more homogeneous groups.

How Latlong helped a customer solve for precision marketing

During a series of state assembly elections in late 2024, Latlong mapped precise locations for over 200,000 polling booths and millions of voter residences. Using our Geocoding API and the Anuga field app, Latlong enriched this data with local points of interest such as schools, markets, and community centres. Campaign teams leveraged this hyperlocal intelligence to craft messages tailored to just a few hundred individuals, delivering content through targeted channels like telco ads and social media. In regions where this approach was deployed, vote share rose significantly in the booths engaged, contributing measurably to overall electoral gains.

Why Hyperlocal Matters for Brands

A typical pin code has about 48,000 adults from different localities — high-income gated communities to working-class neighbourhoods — with different cultural, linguistic, or dietary preferences. By contrast, when you zoom in to smaller clusters (the equivalent of booths in the electoral world), audiences become more alike.

Practical Applications for Brands

  • Retail & FMCG: A grocery chain can run different promotions for neighbourhoods with a high density of young professionals versus those with large families.
  • Food Delivery: Restaurants can customize digital ads based on the cuisine preferences of a specific block.
  • Healthcare & Pharma: Clinics can run awareness campaigns in communities with higher prevalence of lifestyle diseases.
  • Education & Training: Coaching centres can focus outreach on localities with a higher population of school-going children.

Hyperlocal targeting isn't just about smaller areas — it's about smarter marketing that respects the unique character of every neighbourhood.
